Start
When you get an assignment, immediately work on it for 30 minutes: (A) you’ll get a sense for how long it should take and (B) you can ask questions while the topic is still on the assignors mind.
Calm
Your eye can only see when your sight is unobstructed.
Sitting In Discomfort
Focusing on your discomfort either (a) resolves the discomfort or (b) points out an action you can take to resolve it.
Either one is better than avoiding discomfort.
Acting As If
If it’s not destructive to you or others, there’s all the reason to act as if. Acting as if you’re confident, as if you’re capable, as if you’re calm, is helpful, even if you don’t feel like it’s true. We judge our thoughts too much, and value our actions too little.
Mindfulness
Pay attention to what you pay attention to.
Pain vs. Suffering
Pain is natural. Suffering is man-made.
Desire
No itch has disappeared by scratching it.
